What is Spare Parts Management?
Spare Parts Management includes all functions from the supplier through to the point of use. – identification and coding, criticality classification, procurement, quality inspection, stocking policies, links to work planning (kitting, staging), supplier management and internal performance.
Spare parts management is the main component of a complete strategic reliability management process that companies use to ensure that right spare part and resources are at the right place (where the broken part is) at the right time.
Spare parts, are extra parts that are available and in proximity to a functional item, such as an automobile, boat, engine, for which they might be used for repair. Spare Parts Management mission is to provide “the right parts, in the right quantity, to the right place, at the right time, with the right level of quality, and at the least total cost to the organization”.
